Rue d’Amsterdam is a cheerful hideaway on the fourth floor, where sprawling rooms are filled with luminous art, shelves of books and colourful objets that have travelled from afar. And Batignolles is an equally dynamic area of the city, a walk from the wistful alleyways of Montmartre and close to the cafés that cluster around Gare Saint-Lazare. But don’t stray too far –in this apartment all the glories of the world are spread before you in dazzling, infinite array.
Distant dreams
Your hostess was born in Tunisia and now divides her time between Paris and Guadeloupe. A judge and professor, she’s lived across South America and Asia, and particularly enjoys setting her compass, raising the anchor and heading out to sea.
Sail away home
Rue d’Amsterdam’s rooms all flow outwards from a central study, where you’ve a contemporary ghost chair, black and white photography and a chic, angular writing desk. The open-plan sitting room features an octagonal dining table with majestic dark wood and cherry leather chairs, while the sleek chrome kitchen is cheered by a romantic window seat and spicy tiles. Characterful and uncluttered, one bedroom is decorated with floral prints the colour of golden shores, the other white sands, and the bathroom has the feel of a hammam with its grand shower and intricate tiling in deepest turquoise.
